Review: Real Techniques – Core Collection Make-Up Brush Kit

I bought some new make-up brushes a few days ago as my ASBO dog Marley, (named after the film – Marley & Me – by name & by nature!) has a fetish for make-up brushes, beauty blenders and sponges and likes to destroy them. I have seriously gone through so many make-up brushes and sponges because of him and I always forget to put them out of reach. He has the time of his life when he is ripping them to shreds, so I can’t complain, little rascal – ha. So yeah, I bought some new brushes and decided to go with Real Techniques for a change as I have never owned any of their brushes.

The Core Collection comes in a plastic case and you can see the brushes inside, on the back of the case it tells you what make-up brush is which. The four-piece set helps to create a perfect canvas and flawless base and contains four make-up brushes which all have a white tip with soft,  plush, synthetic bristles which are made from taklon bristles so they are 100% cruelty free.  They also have an orange metal with Real Techniques printed on them and each brush is labelled and has a black rubber grip. The set is perfect for those who are experience with make-up and know the ins and outs as well as for those who are new to make-up and inexperienced with make-up brushes. It is a great starter kit for beginners.

What’s In The Box

a panoramic case 

The panoramic case is a dual carrier and stand to store and keep your brushes organised and safe when travelling or for displaying your brushes on your dressing table. You simply fold over the case and pull on the drawstring to tighten it and the case will stand up. It can also be used for upside drying of your brushes. It has a white faux leather exterior which is wipe clean and perfect  in case you get make-up prints on it. It has a grey interior with a white trim and also has a Real Techniques tag at the bottom. It has a Velcro strap opening/closing and has four pieces of elastic on the right side which keeps brushes secure, there is also an extra two pieces of elastic on the left side for storing more brushes if you wish!

a contour brush

The contour brush has a tapered tip which I use for contouring and highlighting. I love using this brush to apply highlighter to my cheekbones and brown-bone as well as for contouring my eyes with a little bronzer when I’m skipping eyeshadow.

a detailer brush

The detailer brush is a very small and flat brush which I use for applying concealer under my eyes and lash-line and around the nose. It is precision cut which is great for concealing problem areas. I also use this brush for fixing up my eyebrows with concealer and it can be used as a lip brush for shape and definition too. It’s also great for tidying up lipstick with concealer.

a pointed foundation brush

The pointed foundation brush has a flat paddle shape which I think is perfect for applying primers, liquid foundations and for applying & blending concealer under the eyes. I love using it to build full coverage with my liquid foundation too.

a buffing brush

The buffing brush is a large round brush which I love using to apply and blend my liquid foundation. It can also be used for full coverage of cream to powder foundation or mineral foundation and is great for applying bronzer, blusher and highlighter as well as for setting foundation and concealer with a loose or pressed powder.

I’ll be using my 2-pack Silicone Brush Cleaners from RUIMIO to keep them nice and clean and in tip-top shape. I got mine here* for £4.99 if you want to take a look. These are not included with the Core Collection. Ha.

Thoughts

I absolutely love the Core Collection kit, you seriously cannot go wrong with this collection, they are fabulous quality and definitely worth the money – I bought these as I’m trying to improve my make-up skills and wanted the perfect tools for the job. I also love how they are cheaper to buy on Amazon as they are more expensive in high street shops.  I really like the case and it fits perfectly in my handbag when I’m out and about and I display my brushes on my dressing table when I’m applying my make-up and they are easy to find and look nice too. The make-up brushes are soft and fluffy and pick up make-up well, my favourites are the pointed foundation brush which I use to blend my concealer under my eyes and the buffing brush because I can use it to apply foundation, blusher, bronzer and setting powder. The make-up brushes are also cleaned easily and so far I have washed them twice and my brushes haven’t shredded which is great as I have found with cheaper brushes they tend to lose their bristles when washing, they also don’t leave bristles all over your face either.  I’ve fallen in love with Real Techniques and I love the Core Collection. I think I’ll buy the Brow Set* next and maybe the Starter Set* for eye make-up.

I would definitely recommend Real Techniques and I absolutely love the Core Collection.
